After finger amputation, functional devices can restore natural hand motion. For example, the MCPDriver by Naked Prosthetics is one option that can restore function to the amputated finger.
Our first step in fabricating this custom device is to obtain a model of the user’s hand. Using this model, the fabricators create a custom harness system. The steel links make up to the articulating digit.
By moving the hand, the user can control the movement of the prosthetic finger. Muscles are initially weak from a period of non-use, but they will quickly adapt and strengthen.
Rehabilitation after amputation might involve two prosthetic options, such as a functional device and a realistic device. A high-realism silicone prosthesis may be needed, based on the user’s emotional needs. If that is the case, the functional device would be used during more labor intensive activities.
Because of our diverse team of experts, we are able to offer a wide range of solutions within our upper limb program. This program includes body-driven devices, myoelectric prostheses, 3D printed upper limb bracing, and high-realism custom silicone prosthetic fingers and hands.
