The 3D Printing Lab at Bio-Tech Prosthetics & Orthotics runs around the clock. Bio-Tech’s own digital engineering team designs custom orthotic bracing, like foot orthotics and ankle braces, using the latest 3D design software. The team then 3D prints each orthotic device in a flexible filament. As user choice is key, there are multiple colors to choose from. Bio-Tech’s unique on-site lab in North Durham allows clinicians to continue pushing the envelope, while maintaining high quality control.
What’s the advantage of this material for orthotic devices? The nature of this 3D printed material allows for targeted orthotic support that is still flexible and comfortable. Bio-Tech President, Michael Astilla, MS, CO, BOCP, explains that flexibility is critical, as it “allows us to interface with the human body in a way that it wants to be”.
